Family of neighborhood churches

Since our inception, Soma Church has been deeply committed to multiplying and maturing churches in our city. In 2017, we restructured our organization into a “Cooperative Model,” where our three churches (Midtown, Downtown, and Northwest) shared one 501c3 status, leadership team, and budget while empowering these local churches to contextualize their ministries to their neighborhoods.

While we’ve seen much fruit from this model, we knew this would be temporary and planned for a time when our churches could be sent out as “adult churches.” In March 2020, after a lengthy process of prayer and seeking the Holy Spirit together, our Elder Team met and approved a plan to localize each of our three Soma churches.

The biggest change that will take place as a result of localization is that beginning August 1, 2020, each church will become a separate 501(c)3 organization with localized governance, management, and ministry.

Our hope is that this the simplicity of this localization process will catalyze a renewed focus and capacity for multiplying and maturing churches across Indianapolis.

You can hear more about this decision in the video below, that we released to our members in May.

Because our desire is to continue our family relationship with one another, all three churches have affirmed a covenant that you can access below.
